Who We Are
Based in Laredo, Texas and Los Angeles, California, the firm delivers residential and commercial interior design services nationwide, combining quality, style, and functionality for clients seeking refined decor or brand expansion.
Co-owners Maya Zuniga and Melissa Levander hand-select merchandise from showrooms, markets, and auction houses around the world, and use 3D rendering to guide clients through the design process.
Our Story
Maya Zuniga and Melissa Levander are first cousins, inspired from an early age by their grandmother’s love of home decor. Melissa pursued design in Hollywood as a set decorator, while Maya built a cosmetic dentistry practice in Laredo for 28 years.
After Maya asked Melissa to help redesign her home in 2010, the response was so strong that Chula Bee Design launched in 2016, answering the demand for upscale, full-service design in South Texas and beyond.
The Founders
Melissa earned degrees in Art and Photography from the University of Texas in 1991. A veteran set decorator, her credits include Little Miss Sunshine, WOLFS, Netflix’s You, and Apple TV+’s Platonic. She designed Kate Walsh’s 1928 Spanish-style home, featured in In Style, November 2009, and leads the design vision for each project.
Dr. Maya Zuniga graduated from St. Mary’s University and the Baylor / Texas A&M College of Dentistry in 1991. She practiced cosmetic dentistry in Laredo for 28 years before co-founding Chula Bee Design, bringing a meticulous eye for detail to every space.
